In the second shooting attack within two hours, an Israeli was seriously wounded in a shooting Wednesday afternoon near Nebe Elias east of Kalkilya in the West Bank.
Earlier Wednesday Eldad Abir, 48, was shot and killed in a terrorist attack at a gas station just outside the West Bank settlement of Migdalim, southeast of Nablus.
The modus operandi in both shootings was similar - the attackers shot the victims at point-blank range with a handgun.
Magen David Adom paramedics initially treated the second victim, a Netanya resident, at the scene. He was subsequently taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva.
Two weeks ago, anti-Muhammad graffiti was spray-painted on a mosque wall in Nebe Elias.
At Migdalim, two armed Palestinians arrived at the gas station on foot and shot Adir, who worked as a gas attendant there, in the head, after which they fled the area in a waiting car.
Large IDF forces at the scene were searching for the assailants.
In addition, an investigative team from police national headquarters was sent to the scene, but police later ruled out the possibility of a crimianl motive.
The Aksa Martyr's Brigades claimed responsibility for the Migdalim attack, according to the Associated Press.
Abir moved to Migdalim nine years ago, and lived there with his second wife and three-year-old daughter. He left behind a child from his first marriage as well.
Migdalim secretary, Liora Yagoda, told The Jerusalem Post that Abir was, "a well liked member of the community who enjoyed assisting others."
Details of Abir's funeral were yet to be released.
MK Aryeh Eldad (NRP-NU) responded to Wednesday's shooting attacks by calling on Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz to resign from his position.
"Minister Mofaz, who took the trouble to show up at the Amona hearing to tell bold-faced lies, should resign from his post because he is unable to provide security for the citizen's of Israel, and all of his energy is focused against Jews," said Eldad.
