A Palestinian lawmaker affiliated with Hamas was arrested Wednesday for ignoring an Israeli order effectively expelling him from Jerusalem, where he lives. Israel had recently revoked the Jerusalem residency permits of the lawmaker, Muhammad Abu-Teir, and three other Palestinian parliament members because of their affiliation with Hamas. Israel considers Hamas, a militant movement that has carried out numerous attacks on Israel, a terrorist organization. The police said Mr. Abu-Teir had ignored a court order to vacate his home and would appear in court on Thursday. Richard Falk, the Palestinian rights investigator for the United Nations, criticized the move as part of a ''larger, extremely worrying pattern of Israeli efforts to drive Palestinians out of East Jerusalem.''
