Forensic scientists on Wednesday exhumed what were believed to be the bodies of Romania’s former leader, Nicolae Ceausescu, and his wife, Elena, in an attempt to solve the mystery of where they were buried. Mr. Ceausescu ruled Romania for 25 years before being executed during a revolt in 1989. Some Romanians, including the Ceausescus’ children, doubt that the Ceausescus were really buried in the Ghencea military cemetery in west Bucharest. Officials say it will take up to six months to determine the identity of the remains.
