Two Palestinian militants were killed and six were wounded Wednesday in an Israeli shelling in the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian witnesses and officials at a hospital said. The shelling took place in Beit Hanun, a town bordering Israel. Israel said its forces fired shells at a group of gunmen who approached the electric fence at the border with an object that looked like a rocket. One of the dead was a member of the Islamic Jihad movement and died at the scene, according to witnesses; another Palestinian died later at the hospital.
