Ynet learns 13 members of Fatah's military wing given full amnesty, including senior al-Aqsa Brigades commander Kamel Ghanam
Palestinian sources reported Tuesday that the Israeli defense establishment has handed over a new list of dozens of wanted members of Fatah's military wing, who were included in the 2007 amnesty agreement.
Ynet has learned that out of the 73 wanted men, 13 were given full amnesty providing them with complete freedom of movement. The other 60 were given freedom of movement in Area A or near the security headquarters they serve in.
The most famous name on the list is Kamel Ghanam, a senior al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades commander in the Ramallah area, who had been included on the Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet wanted lists from 2003 up to the amnesty agreement.
Ghanam escaped a number of assassination attempts and was one of the wanted men who hid in the Mukataa in Ramallah during former Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat's term. Ghanam left the Mukataa in April 2004 along with 20 other wanted men at Arafat's order. A month later, the Palestinians reported that the IDF had encircled a house he was hiding in.
According to estimates, the new list of pardoned men was part of an Israeli gesture to the PA. According to the amnesty agreement, the men must lay down their arms and vow to avoid any armed activity against Israel.
The most famous wanted Palestinian to be given full amnesty was Zakaria Zubeidi, the al-Aqsa Brigades commander in the Jenin refugee camp.
