The prime ministers of India and Pakistan agreed yesterday to work toward resuming their frozen peace dialogue when they met for their first direct talks in nine months. During their discussions, which both sides described as positive, Manmohan Singh of India, above left, and Yousuf Raza Gilani of Pakistan, above right, mandated their foreign ministers to draw up a road map for future talks. The officials would work out ways to restore trust and confidence, "thus paving the way for a substantive dialogue on all issues of mutual concern," said Nirupama Rao, theIndianForeignMinister. The 90-minute meeting took place on the sidelines of the eight-nation South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation summit.
