Officials in Jerusalem confident Western criticism over Dubai assassination will soon die down; All Western countries threatened by terror use similar methods, international cooperation must continue, senior source says

International criticism over the assassination of senior Hamas man Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai is unwarranted, as other states use similar methods in their war on terrorists, a senior official in Jerusalem said late Thursday.

While refraining from confirming that Israel was involved in the assassination, the senior source said that Western countries and the Jewish State are in the same boat when it comes to facing terror threats.

"Israel is not the only country dealing with this phenomenon," the official said. "All Western states threatened by terror use similar methods. Hence, the silent agreements and understandings among them, as well as the sharing of information, must continue."

Officials in Jerusalem say they are confident that the current criticism leveled at Israel will be dying down soon. On Thursday, Israeli envoys in several European capitals were summoned by local officials in order to provide explanations about the Dubai assassination, and particularly about the use of foreign passports in the operation.

However, Israeli officials are saying that the criticism is leveling off as it turns out all Western states share the same interest in the war on terror.

Earlier Thursday, the Interpol issued "red notices" for 11 suspects in the assassination of al-Mabhouh. Pictures of the11 suspects were published on the organization's website, along with a description of their alleged crimes.

Meanwhile, Dubai's Police Chief Dahi Khalfan Tamim said that an arrest warrant should be issued against Mossad Chief Meir Dagan should Israel's involvement in the assassination be proven.
