The number of civilians reported killed in violence in Iraq shot up to 393 in August, its highest level since April. The Health Ministry recorded 224 violent deaths in July. The numbers have fueled Iraqis’ fears as American forces withdraw that their own security forces are not up to the job of protecting them.
