The army is delaying the release of its own investigations into various incidents that took place during Operation Cast Lead due to concerns the information could be used in potential war crimes indictments against officers overseas.

With the majority of internal probes into the operation completed, the military had intended to publicize at least some of its findings to Israeli and foreign media with the intention of demonstrating its troops used reasonable force in Gaza, and that most fire was directed at legitimate targets.

One of the key incidents under investigation was a mortar strike which allegedly hit an UNRWA school in Jabalya, but which was later revealed to have struck outside the school and caused far fewer casualties than first reported.
