Amnesty International is urging the Egyptian government to end the use of lethal force against African migrants attempting to cross into Israel.

The report released Wednesday says at least 19 Africans have been fatally shot since January near the Egypt-Israel border.

Amnesty called for an investigation into the cases of "death at the border." It urged Egypt "to end abuses" against the migrants and train its security forces.

The Egyptian government didn't immediately comment on the report. But security officials often say border guards fire shots in the air.

Hundreds of Africans seeking political asylum and jobs try to illegally cross from Egypt into Israel annually.
