The Israeli government said Sawsan Salameh, left, a 29-year-old Palestinian from the West Bank who was accepted to a doctoral program at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, would be given a six-month permit to stay in Israel. In a statement to the Supreme Court, to which Ms. Salameh had turned, the government said a blanket ban on all other Palestinian students seeking to study in Israeli universities would remain in force for security reasons. But lawyers for Ms. Salameh said six months would not be enough time for her program.
