AMMAN - Jordan executed two Islamist terrorists yesterday who were convicted of killing a U.S. diplomat in Amman.

Officials said prison authorities in Swaqa hanged Libyan Salem bin Suweid and Jordanian Yasser Freihat at dawn, carrying out a court sentence passed in 2004 for murdering U.S. diplomat Laurence Foley in Amman in October 2002.

Death sentences in Jordan are rarely implemented for political detainees.

Dozens of inmates are being held in Jordan on suspicion of plotting attacks on Israelis, Americans and other Westerners.
